This lot of lead projectiles includes two large .69 caliber musket balls, two smaller approx. .54 caliber rifle or pistol balls, and four buckshot. All recovered by author/publisher Dean Thomas (with Wendell Lang).

New Boston was a major winter encampment of the Continental Army located in the Hudson Highlands of New York. It served as a tactical military post positioned on the east side of the Hudson River, directly opposite West Point. The site consisted of rows of log huts built primarily by Massachusetts troops. Historical military muster rolls place regiments like the 3rd Massachusetts and Jackson's Regiment at "Huts - New Boston" during the winters and springs of 1781 and 1782. Along with surrounding encampments like Connecticut Village and Hempstead Huts, New Boston's exact location faded into obscurity after the army disbanded. It was rediscovered and heavily excavated for buttons, belt buckles, and other military relics by W.L. Calver and R.P. Bolton acting as the Field Exploration Committee of the New York Historical Society in the early 20th century. [jet][ph:L]
