A cut section of original wrought iron rail from the Union Pacific Railroad, mounted with a metal identification plaque reading: "Original iron rail used by the Union Pacific Railroad during construction of the first transcontinental railroad. This wrought iron rail was manufactured by the Union Rolling Mill (U.R.M. Co.) and laid at Piedmont, Wyoming in November, 1868."

This small iron rail segment stands approximately 3.75" tall by 5" long, cut and mounted as a display/paperweight piece with the fishplate-style flanged base intact and a rounded, worn rail head showing genuine service wear. Piedmont, Wyoming was a key stop on the original transcontinental line, and this rail is dated to November 1868 — just months before the Golden Spike ceremony at Promontory Summit in May 1869, placing it squarely within the final push of construction on the Union Pacific's westward line.

PROVENANCE: As stated on accompanying identification plaque; no maker's marks or rolling stamps are visible on the rail itself to independently confirm date/origin, and the association should be understood as based on the plaque's representation rather than independently authenticated.
