Offered here is a Ryker case of relics recovered on Nautilus Island in Castine Harbor by Dean Thomas.

Included are two musket balls and a chunk of musket flint.

In 1779 the British Royal Navy sent a detachment of troops here.  They built a fort on the highest point of ground nearest the entrance to the bay and named it Fort George.  The colonial Massachusetts Board of War resolved to send a combined Army and Navy expedition to recapture the area, known as the Penobscot Expedition. After the success of initial attacks to the point where the British commander was waiting to surrender, poor coordination, bickering among American commanders, and inexplicable delays allowed the British to rally and inflict a humiliating defeat on the Americans. While the main battle was on the mainland, the Royal Marines were building a support battery on Nautilus Island in the harbor. Continental Marines made a landing and captured the works.   [jet][ph:L]
