Offered here is a Ryker case of relics recovered at Georgetown, South Carolina.
Included are three large musket balls, two smaller rifle ball, and a musket flint.
On January 24, 1781, patriot commanders Lt. Col. Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee and Gen. Francis Marion combined forces to raid the Georgetown, which was defended by 200 British soldiers. Loyalist Captain Manson later retaliated by shelling the town from an armed galley burning stores, warehouses, and over 40 houses, leaving the town struggling to recover for decades. The Georgetown area was home to Thomas Lynch Sr. and Thomas Lynch Jr., who signed the Declaration of Independence.
From the collection of author/publisher Dean Thomas. Dean was a bullet collector since the 1960s, had published numerous books on Civil War small arms ammunition, and was working on a book about early “round shot” ammunition when he died in 2023. These items were part of his research collection for that project. [jet][ph:L]
