The flak vest was introduced in World War II as a means of providing bomber crewman a means of protection against the danger of enemy anti-air ordnance. These vests were reinvented for use by ground troops during the Korean War.  They proved to be successful in reducing casualties from shrapnel and fragmentation. The M69 was the latest iteration of a flak vest used by US Army infantrymen during the Vietnam War. This vest, constructed of layered ballistic nylon, was quite effective at protecting the wearer from incoming explosives.

The M69 vest is constructed of a durable Olive Drab nylon material and features two breast pockets with snap button closures. Above each pocket is a webbed row of equipment hangers. The vest is fastened by a zipper closure and 5 snap buttons. This vest is sized XL, which is a somewhat rare size for one of these vests. The tags are present and in pristine condition. The contract date puts this vest as being produced in the fiscal year of 1969. It includes the original instruction booklet for wear and maintenance as well. This vest is in near mint condition and was likely never issued. A perfect example for your collection or reenacting impression.  [gh][ph:L]
