BEAUTIFUL MOGHUL INDIAN HELMET (“TOP”) AND MATCHING SHIELD (“SIPAR”), 18TH – EARLY 19TH CENTURY

$2,750.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 88-85

Fluted steel helmet of expert armourer's craftsmanship, skull decorated with intricate and fine quality designs in silver and gold koftgari. The finely executed Arabic gold inscriptions around the brim are true inlays, not koftgari. Helmet fitted with plume holders, the usual spike on top being a large plume holder as well. The small hook that secures the nasal in the up position is missing, but very easily replaced. The mail neck-guard (camail) is of ring-butt mail, and in ex.+ condition. The Sipar (14 1/2" dia.) is decorated ensuite with the helmet, in fine condition retaining most gold and silver koftgari, as well as the original fabric backing (somewhat frayed, but nothing serious). A quality matched pair.  [PE] [ph:L]
