This helmet is known as a cabasset, a type worn by infantry and light cavalry from the mid-sixteenth century through the seventeenth century all over Europe and by the Spanish in the Americas. This exceptional "Italian" type one-piece cabasset measures about 9” tall x 9” wide x 10 ½” deep. Complete. Has all decorative brass rosettes and original web suspension for the lining (now missing). This historic style Helmet exhibits wonderful Hand-hammer marks and an armorer's stamp on the rim. Quite heavy, weighing in near 4 lbs. Minor pitting but the overall condition is excellent.
