Nice felt helmet with all original period insignia, to include the crown plate and spike, crossed cannons side buttons, and front eagle plate with the crossed cannons.
The “helmet” itself is made of black felt with patent leather binding and sweat band. Visors are lined in very thin leather. A small size label (7-1/8) is on the interior. The helmet body is full form with no damage. The edge binding, visor lining, sweat band all remain in very good condition.
The leather band surrounding the cap and the chin strap are present. Black tape has been used to repair breaks to the band on the back side of helmet.
A very fine representative 1881 “helmet”. [jet][ph:L]
