Worn by officers in most of the branches of the United States Army, the waist sash was a common uniform accoutrement and symbol of authority in the military during both field operations and camp duties. The sash, when worn over the frock coat, was wrapped around the waist and looped on the left side. The officer’s leather sword belt was worn over the sash.
This is the NCO version of the sash made of red cotton. This sash measures approximately 84” in length with acorns and tassels on each end. The body of the sash shows notable snagging and tearing throughout. The color is generally strong with a few areas of spot staining. Tassels are complete and in good condition.
An honest example of an NCO sash, ready for display or to round out a partial collection. [cm][ph:L]
