This sash is a regulation crimson officer’s sash made of silk net complete with knots and tassels. The sash is in very good condition with only minor wear to the fringe and the sash itself. There are a few snags to the fabric throughout as well as a couple spots of dark staining. This sash measures approximately 7 inches wide and 82 inches long including the knots and tassels at each end. This early sash was made using silk threads which were woven together using a technique which creates a looser, wider weave is almost fish-net like.

Overall, this sash is in very good condition for its age. There are some pulled threads throughout as well as a few holes and pulls to the fabric. The crimson coloring remains rich and vibrant.

The purpose of these sashes, just like officer’s sashes of other periods, was to signify authority during both field operations and during camp duty.  [cla][ph:L]
