Here is a pair of Civil War Federal Army captain’s shoulder straps sometimes referred to as shoulder boards. Straps are in decent condition with dark blue fields and captain’s bars. Straps measure 3 ½” long x 1 ¼” wide. Both strap fields are in great original condition and made of blue velvet with light wear. Surrounding each field is a single border made of embroidered thread. The same embroidered thread was used to create the double bars indicating captain’s rank. These parts are all bordered with a single twist of wire.
The back of each shows the woven base layer and the stitching used to create the designs on top. The black wool edge on each has suffered moth damage. The word “Gold” is written in brown ink on each. A good, displayable pair of Civil War officer’s straps. [jet] [ph:L]
