The body of this jacket is in excellent condition. There is no visible moth damage of any kind. All the piping is present and is bright. Both pillows are present on the back and are also in great condition. All buttons are present and are General Service eagle buttons. Cuffs are functional. Buttons are Scovills and Co. Extra manufacture, adding to the wartime provenance of this wonderful jacket. Note, the lowest button is missing, which is typical among original examples as this is a primary stress point of most shell jackets when worn or displayed. All exterior seams are tight. Base of collar has hook and eye closure.
Interior is lined with a coarse brown to cream jean wool material while the sleeves are lined with white muslin. There is a breast pocket along the edge of the left liner seam. Right sleeve lining is stenciled with a “2”. There is also a blurred inspector’s stamp with some type of blotted out sub marking. Left sleeve has no stamps of any type. Lining is perfect save for a reinforcement repair along the rear right main seam.
If you are looking to add a nearly pristine US Cavalry Jacket to your collection, this is surely the one. It would display beautifully among any collection. [cm][ph:L]
