Offered here is a fine example of a light weight cavalry officer’s sack coat. This coat is constructed of light weight dark blue wool, machine stitched, and unlined. Seven large eagle “C” buttons line the front with tight machine-stitched button holes. All buttons have matching Scoville back marks and appear original to the coat. There are no buttons at the cuffs. This has a short, 1” tall, collar. On the shoulders are two small (1.2” x 3”) first lieutenant shoulder straps. These are single border, gold bullion, with yellow centers.
Condition is generally very good. The coat has a small number of scattered moth holes and perhaps four small areas of wear/separation; none of which are terrible. The shoulder straps have some loss of knap on the yellow fields.
A fine-looking light weight coat typical of post-Civil War clothing worn out in the hot, dusty, West! [jet] [ph:L]
