An exceptional pair of privately tailored Panzer-type trousers (Feldhose), constructed of fine-quality black Trikot (tricot) wool and exhibiting the elevated workmanship reserved for officer-grade purchases rather than standard issue. During the later war years tricot was a premium material previously used almost exclusively for officer headgear and finer uniform articles, and its use here — combined with the bespoke tailoring and full black satin lining — points firmly to a custom officer's commission rather than depot production.

The trousers follow the classic Panzer cut, patterned after the ski trousers of the period: cut full through the seat and thigh and tapered sharply toward the ankle so the legs could be bloused into the boots. The cuffs retain their cloth drawstring ties, used to gather and blouse the trouser bottoms, and are finished with the period satin/artificial-silk lining at both the waistband and the leg openings. The waistband shows cloth belt loops for a leather belt, a buttoned fly front, slanted hip pockets, and the internal adjustment construction consistent with quality tailored examples. Overall the piece displays honest age, patina, and wear entirely commensurate with a wartime-used garment.

The trousers descend from the collection of noted collector Rich Long and are accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity from Kelly Hicks of SS Steel, Inc. — author of the standard references on SS combat and parade headgear. Hicks attributes the trousers as custom, original work for a high-ranking SS Panzer officer, possibly of general's rank, and renders the opinion that the item is original in materials, manufacture, age, patina, and wear.

Construction and detailing correspond closely with the published descriptions of Panzer uniform trousers in the standard literature (black wool ski-cut pattern, tapered bloused cuffs, satin-lined officer's tailoring), making this a well-documented and display-ready example of a scarce and desirable piece of SS Panzer officer's clothing.

Provenance: Ex-collection Rich Long.

Documentation: Signed Certificate of Authenticity, Kelly Hicks / SS Steel, Inc.

Offered as a historical artifact for collectors, students, and museums of WWII material culture.   [sr][ph:L]
