White ribbon that meas. approx. 3.00 inches wide x 7.75 inches long with black printing on face. The dates “1862” and “1907” appear in opposite corners at top. Centered below the dates is a 19th Corps Badge. In English script on the body of the ribbon is “FORTIETH ANNUAL RE-UNION 49TH MASSACHUSETTS REGIMENT, PITTSFIELD, AUGUST 29TH 1907.”
Ribbon is in nice clean condition with clear printing and only light surface dirt.
The 49th Massachusetts Infantry was raised from September to October 1862 to serve 9 months. After garrison service in New York the regiment was part of Banks Expedition to Louisiana. During its service the regiment saw action at Monticeno Bayou, Plains Store, Port Hudson and Donaldsonville. The regiment was mustered out in September of 1863 suffering a loss of 106 killed, wounded or captured with 84 more men dying of disease.
