This pin was sold as part of the fundraising effort to erect a statue to Jackson on Richmond’s Monument Avenue to join monuments to Lee, Stuart, and Jefferson Davis. May 1, 1914, was declared Jackson Monument Day and “a hundred patriotic women” spread out among the commercial and public buildings of the city to offer these pins for sale. The pin was manufactured by the Bastian Brothers of Rochester, NY, prominent makers of celluloid bookmarks, advertising cards, etc. The pin uses a printed ANV battleflag with white lettering, “Jackson Monument Day, May 1st 1914” divided into the four quadrants of the flag and retains its simple bent, straight pin. The monument was completed and dedicated five years later. [sr] [ph:L]
