Below the rifles is a prison stockade with a Union prisoner being mauled by a dog. Below the art work is printed “36^TH ANNIVERSARY OF NEW JERSEY UNION EX-PRISONERS OF WAR NEWARK, N. J. SEPT. 15, 1922.”
