Item Code: 595-1920

Ribbon commemorates the annual reunion of the 148th New York Volunteers in Pen Van, New York on August 25, 1904.  Composed of red, white, and blue silk, the ribbon measures 4 ¼” long and 1 9/16” wide suspended from a round celluloid pin.  The pin consists of a Union camp scene with a soldier in the center with the US flag, cavalry to their right, and along the top is a scene of US artillery.  The colors on the pin are crisp and clear with an intricate gold border.  Parts of the border have minor discoloration.  Along the bottom crest of the pin reads “THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, NJ.” The ribbon has gold lettering with minor fraying at the bottom.

On reverse, there is a consumer tag for the Whitehead and Hoag Company on the bottom portion of the ribbon.  Founding in 1892, the Whitehead and Hoag Company were known as the premier company for novelty advertisements, particularly ribbon badges.  In 1896 they patent the pin back button, which is evident on this item.  The pin measures 1 5/8” with rust on the tip.  The pin retains its original patent mark on paper.
