This handsome piece comes to us in a great condition, with gold wire braiding fringe, banner pin, ribbon, and original ribbon card. The only signs of notable wear are the two parallel tears across the upper portion of the ribbon measuring 1.5” and .5”. Each tear is very clean and inconspicuous and neither detracts from the presentation of the ribbon.
The banner pin is labeled “SOUVENIR”, while the ribbon features silvered text reading “41st ANNUAL REUNION OF THE 1ST N. Y. DRAGOONS/PORTAGE BRIDGE N.Y. 1910”. A card is attached along the bottom edge of the ribbon by the line of stitching that also attaches the gold edge border. Pictured on the card is an aged Colonel Tom. Thorp of the 1st NY, with stylized totals of battles, flags captured, artillery captured, caissons captured, and prisoners taken through the regiment’s term of service. Gilt twisted wire strands of fringe hang from stitching along the bottom edge of the badge. The reverse hosts a manufacturer sticker label reading “W.m.H. Hoegee Co.” placed over the folded portion at the top. Overall measurements are 8.25” x 3”.
This is a gem for the discerning collector of veteran memorabilia – attractive, unit-specific, and in good condition. [cm][ph:L]
