Very nice coin silver ID badge in the shape of an acorn representing the 14th Army Corps. The face is engraved to define the “cap” of the acorn. The face of the badge is smooth with light tarnish. The reverse has a T-bar pin and clasp.
The XIV Corps was part of the Union Army during the Civil War. It was one of the earliest corps formations in the Western Theater. On October 24, 1862, the War Department issued General Orders No. 168, creating both the XIII Corps and the XIV Corps. The XIV Corps was to be organized from troops of the Army of the Cumberland, and to be commanded by General William Rosecrans. They fought at Stones River, Missionary Ridge, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta, and Bentonville.
A very fine Civil War corps badge from the Texas Civil War Museum collection. [jet][ph:L]
