This Sons of Union Veterans badge is in excellent condition, with a nice portrait drop pin featuring General John Reynolds – the iconic Lancaster native killed in the escalating early phases of the Battle of Gettysburg.
A base pin features a relief of a Conestoga Wagon, occupant, and driver being pulled by a team of equines against a pastoral backdrop. The reverse is stamped “THE WHITEHEAD AND HOAG CO. NEWARK, NJ”.
An undamaged patriotic ribbon reads “51st ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT SONS OF UNION VETERANS OF THE CIVIL WAR LANCASTER, PA. JUNE, 1931”.
The celluloid drop button pin is in good condition with original label reading “THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. / BUTTONS, BADGES, NOVELTIES AND SIGNS / NEWARK, N.J.” Badge measures 1.4” x 4.1”.
A very uncommonly seen piece of SUV memorabilia with a clear link to the legendary General Reynolds. A great piece for the collector of Civil War veterans’ items. [cm][ph:L]
