This rare ribbon commemorates the 32nd Encampment of the Union Ex-Prisoners of War Society, held in 1904 in Boston.  Several organizations were formed after the war for the express purpose of fraternity and support among Union Army and Navy Prisoners of War. Many such organizations operated independently of well-known, larger veterans’ groups (the 38th GAR Annual Encampment was held in 1904 in Boston to coincide). with the 32nd POW Encampment).

The piece is in good overall condition with minor surface markings, strong edges, minimal fraying, and printed black text reading; “32nd NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT / UNION EX-PRISONERS OF WAR / BOSTON / AUG. 15, 1904”.  A small area of wear in form of separation is noted at upper right. Reverse is blank.  Ribbon is securely attached to bar with vertical sticking pin for mounting to the wearer’s garment. Dimensions are 2.75” x 4.9”.

An uncommon piece for the collector of Civil War Veteran items.   [cm][ph:L]
