This uncommon badge features a crimson ribbon of silk, suspended from a silver brooch.  The ribbon is embossed with the text “Battery I,/FIRST PENNA./LIGHT ARTILLERY” with decorative top banner and centered trefoil.  Gold gilt fill is largely worn or muted, but presentation remains good.  Complete band of metallic fringe remains secured to the bottom edge.  Dimensions are 1.8” x 6.5”.

The First PA Independent Artillery was organized as a regiment, but its batteries operated independently and were scattered across the commands of the Eastern Theater. Battery I was the final company organized on March 2, 1865. Its primary function was duty in the Defenses of Washington, D. C. - attached to DeRussy's Division until July. They mustered out on July 1st, 1865, with the loss of two men to disease.

An uncommon, unit-specific badge for the collector of Civil War veteran items.  [cm][ph:L]
