Top hangar is a brass medal with an image of crossed cannons and the wording, “ADMIRAL FOOTE”. Original pin is on reverse. Suspended from this is a blue silk ribbon with gold lettering that reads, “NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT / G.A.R. / BOSTON / AUGUST 1890”. Drop is a brass shield-shaped medal with the state seal of Connecticut and wording that reads, “QUI TRANSTULIT SUSTINET”, the state motto that means, “He who transplanted sustains.” An acorn hangs of the bottom of medal. Entire length measures 4 ½”. Face of ribbon is clean and there is no fraying. [AD]
