Tin canteen has original cork and metal chain with brass plates on the sides. One side shows a raised image of the US Capitol building with lettering that reads, “SOUVENIR / TWENTY SIXTH GRAND ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT. WASHINGTON, D.C. SEPT. 20TH TO 23RD 1892”. Other side has raised image of three men with lettering that reads, “GAR 1861 TO 1865. 1892”.
Marked with patent date of April 16, 1889.
Canteen measures 4 ¼” in circumference. Shows surface spotting and darkening in areas. No dings or dents. With modern replacement sling. [ld] [ph:L]
