Ribbon is in memory of Colonel Alexander Duncan Adams (Post no. 153) who served with the 27th New York Infantry and is buried in the South Lyons Cemetery, in Lyons, New York. The item measures from top bar to tassel bottom 8 ¾” long and 2 5/16” wide and is composed primarily of black silk with gold lettering. The top bar is a celluloid pin with an image of a GAR membership badge as the focal point. The top bar measures 2 3/8” long. Two ribbons are suspended from the top bar; the general black morning ribbon, and a ruched red, white, and blue bunting ribbon. Suspended from the red, white, and blue ribbon is another circular celluloid medallion. Pictured on the medallion is lady liberty laying a laurel wreath on a GAR monument that says “IN MEMORIAM.” The black memorial ribbon is in good condition, whereas the patriotic ribbon is fair with tears and discoloration.
On reverse, there is worn manufacture stamp on the top bar that is attributed to the Whitehead and Hoag Company. Item retains its original pin. The ribbons are folded over on the top and secured with hand stitching. On the bottom portion of the ribbon is a manufacture tag for the company. The crisp black color on the front has faded to brown on the back. [mc] [ph:L]
