This large replica of a G.A.R. medal measures 10” by 6” and weighs 2 lbs 7 oz. The eagle, cannon balls, stars on the flag ribbon, and the medal retain a lot of their original gold paint. The crossed cannon appear to have been painted black. The flag ribbon has the stripes in somewhat worn red and white. The blue of the canton is good. The bottom point of the star has been tapped for a threaded mount. A flagstaff finial is a possibility or perhaps it was mounted over the entrance of a G.A.R. In any case, it shows its age, but is in good condition and would make a nice centerpiece in a G.A.R. display. [sr][ph:L]
