This GAR Membership Medal is a “Type IV”, in production and distribution from 1879-1880. This is the version which preceded the later types with rounded wings and stampings on the reverse of the brooch.
All metal is muted in color, while the early ribbon shows fading and wear to the edges – a sure sign of use. 1.25" wide by 2.5" long.
A rare chance to collect an earlier Grand Army of the Republic badge. [cm][ph:L]
