Plain white metal badge. Top bar has pin on back while front is inscribed “WASHINGTON 1892.” Keystone shaped badge reads “POST 8 PHILA.” A red, white and blue ribbon is attached between the top bar and the badge.

Post 8 was named for US Senator Edward D. Baker who was a friend of President Lincoln. He served as Colonel in the 4th Illinois Infantry in the Mexican War and was later elected to Congress. At the start of the Civil War he was Colonel of the 71st Pa which he raised. Later he was commissioned a Major General and was killed in action at the Battle of Ball’s Bluff on October 21, 1861.  [ad][ph:L]
