Small string-bound booklet meas. approx. 6.50 x 4.50 inches and runs approx. 10 pages. The cover is full color with an embossed design of a US flag on a staff leaning against stacked muskets. The title reads “BITS OF CAMP LIFE.” The first page of the booklet has color drawings of all the different Union Army Corps badges. After that are pages of music with the first line of some famous war songs like “MARCHING THROUGH GEORGIA,” “BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC,” “WHEN JOHNNY COMES MARCHING HOME” etc… Opposite each page of music are wonderful color chromolithographs of different army life scenes. All together there are 6 of these scenes. One shows a sentry in the woods with a rider approaching, another shows an officer reading mail while men drill in front of a camp in the background. One is humorous, it shows two soldiers chasing a pig and a duck through a gate fence with one soldier falling over the fence. This is a delightful little book put out by the Joseph Horne Company of Pittsburg[h] who advertises in the back of the booklet. They also produced the spoon that is pictured just inside the back cover as a souvenir of the 1894 reunion.
