This two piece badge is known as the Southern Cross of Honor. It has a plain top bar with a pin on the reverse. When presented to a veteran his name would be engraved on the front of the bar.
Suspended from the bar by a single link is a Maltese cross with a laurel wreath at center. In the wreath is a Confederate battle flag while around the arms of the cross is the wording “UNITED DAUGHTERS CONFEDERACY TO THE U.C.V.”
The reverse of the cross has another laurel wreath at center with “DEO VINDICE 1861” over “1865.” The wording around the cross reads “SOUTHERN CROSS OF HONOR.”
The Southern Cross of Honor was a commemorative medal created in 1899 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy to honor Confederate Veterans.
This cross is mounted to a piece of gray cloth and ready for display. [ad]
