Printed silk Confederate Second National Flag – the “Stainless Banner.” Adopted May 1, 1863 and in use as the national flag until March 4, 1865. Originally conceived of with a central blue bar, but finally adopted in this form. This is printed on white silk with all four edges reinforced with stitching. Measures 12-1/2” by 7-3/4” with strong color front and back to the battleflag used as the union. Minor soiling. Very light folds and creases. A few thin spots of foxing at upper right and lower right 3” from the fly edge. One small, narrow tear to the silk, 2” long and ½” from the lower edge, near the fly, but no fabric missing. This is one a thin card stock or album page, but not attached to it, the light creases in the fabric showing it was stored folded. No sign of a sleeve or mounting with tacks, but suitable size for use as a small parade flag at a United Confederate Veterans event.  [sr] [ph:L]
