1911 marked the organization’s 21st annual reunion and, of course, coincided with the fiftieth anniversary of the beginning of the war. Some 12,000 veterans reportedly attended and attendance at the event was estimated at140,000.
This is a souvenir watch fob made for sale on the occasion. Made of brass, the fob/medal is shield-shaped, with scrolls at upper corners and curling foliate decoration at the bottom corners, with small raised lettering: “UNITED / CONFEDERATE VETERANS / REUNION” with “LITTLE ROCK, ARK. / 1911” bottom and “MAY / 16-18” on either side of applied crossed Third National and CS battle flags. Both flags, being raised surfaces, have rubbing to the details- at left edge of the battle flag, and at left and bottom of the 3rd national. The lower portion of the battle flag’s staff is missing below the intersection of their crossed staffs. This is suspended by a brass hook/clip from brass wire loop for the ribbon. The back of the fob shows some deep scratches across the center from wear, indicating a proud owner. [sr][ph:m]
