Generally regarded as the last “grand reunion” of Confederate veterans, this 42nd annual meeting was held in Richmond, Va, and attended by an estimated 1,500 Confederate veterans. It is the subject of a 1984 book by V. Dabney titled, “The Last Review.”
This is a good condition United Confederate Veterans reunion badge for the occasion made and marked on the reverse by Schwaab of Milwaukee. Pinback top bar with “SOUVENIR” surmounted by an eagle. Red and white vertical striped ribbon. Medal with raised letters reading, “UNITED CONFEDERATE VETERANS REUNION / JUNE 21-24” at bottom with “1932” in separate circle at bottom center with feather wings extending upward on either side of the medal- a very modern style at the time. A rectangle at center frames a Confederate battleflag with enameled blue and red color, with “RICHMOND” above and “VIRGINIA” below in small raised letters. There are some stains and some soiling to the ribbon, most noticeable on the white stripe at right, but this would be an essential piece in any UCV collection. Please see our photos. [sr][ph:m]
