Two-piece gilt brass badge with pin-back top bar reading, “UCV” bordered by “61” and “65,” with “VETERAN” in capital block letters below. Badge suspended by two links, showing at center a similar “61 UCV 65” along a circular border with raised edges, with “NEW ORLEANS APRIL 25, 1906” all in raised letters. Crossed CS battleflag and 3rd National at center with Louisiana crescent at top and portrait bust at bottom of Stephen D. Lee, former Lieutenant-General in the Confederate Army and from 1904 commander of the UCV. This particular reunion ran from April 25 to April 27.
The badge is in good condition and preserves a Schwaab, Milwaukee, maker’s stamp on the reverse- a popular badge maker of the period. The pin portion of the one-piece spring fastener is missing, but the catch loop on the other end is there. Raised portions on the face- lettering and motifs- show rubbing to the gilt finish. Recessed areas preserve stronger traces, though with a small light brown spot showing through at the upper right of the top bar, just above the “65” and darker area on the planchet at lower right. The back has some tape remnants from a label. [sr][ph:m/L]
