This bayonet was meant to be carried attached to the Model 1938 Carcano but in the folded position until wanted. The blade folds by depressing a button at the base of the wood handle. When needed the soldier would just unfold it and push back on the blade to lock the it in place. The bayonet could also be carried in a metal scabbard for attaching to the belt, as offered here.
This particular bayonet has a blued spearpoint blade that meas. approx. 7.00 inches long with a fuller that runs close to one edge of the blade for approx. 4.75 inches. The blade surface still retains 98%of its blued finish
The grip is made of wood and is held by two screws. The attachment locking mechanism as well as the button for folding and unfolding the blade are also blued. Top of the grip is numbered “L27993.” The steel cross guard and muzzle ring are also blued.
Metal scabbard has a wide throat and one side has a metal belt loop. [AD] [PH:L]
