"Tinnie" is the common term for a commemorative medal made from a non-precious metal such as zinc or tin (or even plastic) and with provisions for being attached to a garment and displayed while worn. The Nazi Government issued many different tinnies to commemorate various occasions.

Tin is shield shaped with a swastika coming out of a rising sun at center. The top reads “PFALZ-GAUTAG” while the bottom reads “KAISERSLAUTERN 22.&23. 11 30.”

The Nazi Gau (plural Gaue) system was established at a party conference on 22 May 1926 to improve administration of the party structure. From 1933 onwards, after the Nazi seizure of power, the Gaue increasingly replaced the states as administrative subdivisions in Germany.

As best as can be determined this tin marks the addition of the Kaiserslautern area to a Gau on November 22 & 23 1930.

Reverse has the original pin.  [ad] [ph:L]
