The full title of this book is “GERMAN FIGHTER ACE ERICH HARTMANN: THE LIFE STORY OF THE WORLD’S HIGHEST SCORING ACE” with commentary by Ursula Hartmann and introduction by Manfred Jager. The book was published by Schiffer Publishing of West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1992.
Hardcover volume is bound in red cloth with the title in black on the spine. Front cover has artwork showing a BF-109 in flight. Illustrated dustjacket has a painting of Hartmann’s plane taking off on a mission and titled “THE KNIGHT AT DAWN.” Dustjacket is in very nice condition with only minor surface dirt from age and storage772-04.
Volume meas. approx. 8.50 x 11.00 inches with nice marbled endpapers and runs approx. 296 pages. First page has a very nice tipped in plate that reads “SPECIAL AUTOGRAPHED COPY” with Mr. Hartmann’s autograph and showing that this is book number 343 of 500. Interior is in good condition with only slight yellowing to page edges from second hand cigarette smoke. Volume is profusely illustrated with black & white photographs.
Erich Alfred Hartmann was a German fighter pilot during World War II and the most successful fighter ace in the history of aerial warfare. He flew 1,404 combat missions and participated in aerial combat on 825 separate occasions.
