The German army originally adopted a slightly modified version of the NSDAP’s national eagle with instructions to have it applied to all steel helmets, visor caps, and tunics by May 1, 1934. The eagle came in three distinct designs with two having slightly different out-stretched wings and the third with down-swept wings. The early issue breast eagles were done in white thread and were to be abolished in 1939 in order to be replaced with a less visible grey breast eagle, but the changeover was never fully completed.

Green strip of cloth meas. approx. 5.00 x 2.25 inches containing an eagle and swastika done in gray thread. Eagle’s wingspan is approx. 3.75 inches.

Item is in very nice condition.   [ad][ph:L]
