Attractive cup stands 2 ½” tall; the base is 2” in diameter. Has folding handles and bears the Rumpp & Sons mark of a keystone with an “R” at center. Accompanying brown leather case shoes show wear but still in very nice condition.
C.F Rumpp and Sons produced the leather case, they then had the cup made for them. Carl Frederich Rumpp founded the firm in 1850; Herman Rumpp , son of the founder and second president. and Carl Rumpp, grandson of the founder and later head of the firm. The original plant was at 108 North Front Street in Philadelphia, later at Fifth and Cherry Streets. During the Civil War, they made cartridge belts and leather cases for the Union Army. During World War I they introduced ostrich leather goods. The business closed in the 1960’s. [gr/ld][ph:L]
