This enlistedman's open-collared field blouse is the style developed in 1940 in anticipation of deployment of German forces to North Africa under Irwin Rommel. This jacket of mid-brown canvas/cotton has four pleated patch pockets with scalloped flaps. It also has a five-button front and no provision for closing the collar. All the buttons were the standard 19mm white metal pebbled type and have the removeable ring toggles found on all German "cotton" uniform jackets of the period. Inside, the jacket does not have lining which is correct. A field dressing pocket is located in the lower right front of the jacket's interior skirt. The back of the jacket has the central seam. Belt hook hangers of white metal are on each side under the arm, and the jacket has three eyelets on each side to accommodate adjustment of these belt hooks. There is a plethora of military stampings which include numbers and letters. The condition is excellent with the exception of a 1-inch tear on the right side adjacent the collar. It was certainly used in the field and subsequently captured by an American GI. Originals like this one are rarely found. [pe][ph:L]
