The US 20th Army Air Force was activated in 1944 and deployed the use of the new B-29 Superfortress in a strategic bombing capacity over mainland Japan. The Enola-Gay and Bockscar, the planes that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan, were both bombers under the 20th AAF command.
This bullion patch is one of the finest original examples available on the market. The bullion thread used in this patch was applied delicately and with a wealth of skill. The shape of the globe is made up of two interwoven strands of bullion thread. The AAF roundel is done in a similar manner. The backing of the patch is a dark blue flannel like material. It does not bear any signs of having been applied to a uniform. If you are a collector of patches, this 20th AAF would make a fine addition to your collection. [gh][ph:L]
