The exterior of the cap is in excellent condition and free of any moth damage. It has a dark blue wool body with two grommeted vent holes on each side of the crown. Around the base is a slightly faded black band approximately 0.75 of an inch wide, outlined on top and bottom by gold bullion tape 0.50 inch wide.
Embroidered directly on to the front of the crown is a spread-winged eagle insignia. The eagle is in excellent condition with only two small areas of wear, one is a loose thread on the eagle’s chest and the other is a frayed thread on the eagle’s left leg. These are minor.
Black leather visor has a bound edge with a green lining on the underside. Side buttons of the standard service eagle variety while the chinstrap is made of bullion cloth and is 100% intact.
The interior has a wide black leather sweat band that shows only minor wear and a black silk lining which has come loose along one side. The crown is marked with an imprint for ARMSTROG CO. of CHICAGO. [AD] [PH:L]
