US WORLD WAR TWO PILOT’S NAVIGATION LEATHER CASE WITH B-17G MANUAL & OTHER ACCESSORIES

$500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 772-08

Brown leather case measuring 17.00 x 11.50 inches with a zippered edge. The zipper works properly and the zipper pull is marked “CONMAR” which is proper for the period. The face of the kit is stamped with the U.S. Army Air Forces insignia of a winged star in a circle over “ARMY AIR FORCES” in white above which is “PILOT’S NAVIGATION KIT / AIR FORCE / UNITED STATES ARMY” in gold ink done in three lines. Case shows moderate edge wear throughout.

Interior is lined in green cloth. One side of the case has 3 vertical pockets while the opposite side has two large horizontal pockets. Interior is mostly clean and in excellent shape.

Present inside the case are the following items;

A Field Service Manual for the Boeing B-17G. The manual runs 601 pages and covers everything there is to know about the B-17G. Manual has multiple diagrams, many color coded. Page edges are dirty and closure snaps are rusted but otherwise it is in nice shape. An inside stamping shows that the manual was issued in March of 1945.

December 1943 Southern Railway System Time tables of Passenger Trains. Runs 35 pages. Paper has slightly browned with age.

A pair of aviator’s sunglasses in excellent condition still in the original case marked “AVIATORS FULL VIEW.” Case shows some wear from age but is otherwise good. Glasses are near perfect.

Dead Reckoning E-6B Computer. Item is complete with leather carrying case and operates properly.

Type D-4 Time and Distance Computer in the original pasteboard container. Computer works properly.

Emergency Signaling Mirror with printed instructions on one side. Mirror is missing its rope lanyard and the mirror surface is slightly worn.

Small leatherbound pocket calendar from the Fidelity Trust Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for 1943

2 AAF cloth escape maps in nice condition. One is for Southeast China while the other is Eastern Asia

The last item is a very nice AAF marked magnifying glass with metal stand. It comes housed in a leather case marked “PROPERTY AIR FORCES U.S. ARMY.”

The center of the interior also has an owners label filled out for “SGT. H. DEMAREST / BOMBER TRG. CMD / CARLSBAD AIR BASE.”

Unfortunately, there are too many “H. Demarest” listed in the records to determine his service.

A nice little AAF group with some valuable accessories.  [ad] [ph:L]
