Item Code: 160-66

This German officer’s sword was made by Eickhorn and is so marked. Reference books refer to this sword in the following terms “Although generally considered to be an Army pattern, this sword was also adopted for wear by members of the Waffen-SS division ‘PRINZ EUGEN.’”

The drawn sword meas. approx. 39.75 inches with a slightly curved blade that is 35.00 inches long with a 22.25 inch long unstopped fuller. The blade surface is mostly bright with light scattered oxidation and some rub spots. The edge has several small nicks that can be felt rather than seen. Reverse ricasso bears the Eickhorn maker’s mark and name. The leather washer is present at the base of the ricasso.

The hilt has a black Bakelite grip wrapped with eleven courses of twisted brass wire flanked on each side by plain wire. The brass backstrap of the grip starts at the pommel and descends down to an oakleaf decorated ferrule just above the guard. The pommel portion of the backstrap is decorated with an eagle and swastika while the middle portion has two “ears” that project out onto the Bakelite guard and are decorated with a single oakleaf with another oakleaf at the base of the strap just above the ferrule. The brass knuckle bow is “D” shaped and flat with two oakleaves point to point at the middle. The top of the knuckle bow has separated from the pommel but it is still firmly in place. The elliptical guard ends in a rounded quillon. Guard has front and back langets. The front langet is composed of a spread-winged eagle with wings that run along the edge of the guard with swastika and wreath in its talons while the rear langet is blank.

Metal scabbard is properly painted black with a single mount and ring. Scabbard is free of dents but the lower third on both sides has speckled rust along its surface.  [ad][ph:L]
