This haversack is bigger than its 1874 counterpart meas. approx.. 14.25 x 16.00 inches.
The bag is made of khaki canvas with an exterior that is strongly stenciled “U.S.” The outer flap is anchored by a strip of khaki canvas material that has three brass grommeted holes. This attaches to a small brass buckle on the bottom of the item.
Under the flap is one wide and one narrow pocket. The wide pocket has a button closure.
The opposite side of the interior has a single large pocket with a smaller detachable pocket that buttons to the inside wall. Also present is a small rice bag.
Bag is faintly marked “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL.”
Reverse has two brass “D” rings sewn to the bag for attaching the shoulder strap.
All is in wonderful, like new condition. Only some light surface dirt on the canvas. [ad] [PH:L]
