These machetes with 18” blades were part of the A-26 Global Survival Kit and, according to Cole, were also in some airborne kits as well. This is in very good condition and clearly marked on the reverse TRUETEMPER over -1945- in line with the blade near the grip, just under a U.S. stamped across the blade. The identical piece is pictured by Cole as number 9 on p.152 of his Book III, thought that identifies the grips as green plastic and the color here is light brown. He also records scabbards of green canvas or canvas impregnated with green plastic and fitted with a stamped steel throat, whereas this one is molded plastic, pierced with four drainage holes and fitted with round brackets on the upper reverse for the brass wire belt hook. The obverse is clearly embossed near the throat with a winged star in two circular borders with AAF in raised letters at the bottom between the border lines.

The blades were blackened. This shows as very dark gray with some shallow scratches and lightly rubbed areas, but with good edge along the bottom and tip. It retains a brown knotted cord wrist strap. The grips are good, with good color, rivets in place, and no cracks or chips.  [sr][ph:L]
