These picket pins were originally issued to the US Cavalry to secure their horses while resting in a picket line. The brown leather sleeve was attached to the trooper’s saddle with two leather straps, which are missing from this example. Both the sleeve and picket pin remain in excellent condition. The leather remains soft and supple, exhibiting no cracks to the body and no crazing; all seams are still intact.
The pin is in very fine condition with a deep brown patina. There are no markings on either the scabbard or the picket pin. These were issued with M1913 Cavalry Saber (Patton Sword) and were part of pre-WW1 experimental kit for mounted troops. [jet][PH:L]
