This is an original M-1904 U.S. cavalry picket pin and rope used to secure horses while soldiers were dismounted.
The Model 1904 Picket Pin is a 14.5” long iron pin, painted black, with a set of swivels and rings that extend the length another 3.5” inches overall. Attached to the pin by a snap hook is the coil of rope (lariat). These were carried by most cavalrymen and seen hanging from their McClellan saddles. The lariat is in excellent condition and has seen a little or no use. The cotton roping is in very good condition. The metal snap rings and hardware retain much of its brown painted finish.
This will look great hanging from a Model 1904 McClellan saddle display. [jet][PH:L]
