A very clean example of the French M1915 Adrian helmet with very strong paint, comb and RF/bomb plate in place, as well as liner and chinstrap (detached on one end) and carrying an excellent example of the stamped and gilt brass veteran’s plate on the brim. The plate is a superior example, retaining strong, though slightly muted, gilt on the raised foliate motifs set off against a darker ground with center front oval plate stamped in raised letters along the bottom: “Soldat De La Grande Guerre / 1914-1918.” The plate does show natural rubbing to the gilt on the high points- the central raised area- but the gilt remains fairly strong in the recessed, channeled border. As is usually the case, the plate is not engraved with an individual soldier’s name, though room was left to do so. The underside of the brim has a museum or collection identification in small white letters: “French M/15 / Infantry Regt. /WW.I.” [sr] [ph:L]
